Momentum
In the spring of 2025, I was the Costume Designer for one of the student choreographed pieces for Miami University's show entitled Momentum. Momentum followed 14 diffierent choreographed dance pieces, composed of student dancers, and some of the pieces featured student costume designers as well. I designed the costume for the piece "Justification", which was about being indecisive and having to choose between two difficult choices.
The choreographer knew that she wanted a sage green and lilac purple color palette, and asked that the dancers have a fading gradient from one side to the other. Striving for an elevated dancewear style I tried to find costume pieces that were movable and breathable for the performance, but did not look like regular athletic attire. Finding a nice balance through flared and flowing garments and dancewear, I wanted to capture the parallels between two choices and how even though they can be two seperate decisions there can still be some overlap.
