Peter & The Starcatcher
In the fall of 2024, I was the Costume Assistant for Miami University Theatre Department's production of Peter and The Starcatcher. The show follows a nameless orphan boy who is being transported to a distant island, and encounters girl named Molly Aster. Molly is a Starcatcher, and is therefore tasked with protecting magical starstuff from falling into the wrong hands. Together, they face many trials and tribulations as they both learn how to live up to their full potential
As the Costume Assistant, I got to work on all the mermaid tails, bras, and head pieces for the mermaid lagoon scene in the show. All of the tails are an athletic spandex material I overlocked together into one long tube for the actors to slip on and off. The tails are made of felt and have felt slippers sized to each actor's feet for them to slip into as well. Each bra was bought online and had seashells and starfish sewn into them to create the mermaid bra look. To create the headbands, a tube of the matching tail fabric was made and sewn around an actual headband, and then many crocheted curly strands were hand sewn on top.
